Aug 25-29 Elements of Fiction

Monday:
Bell Work:  Grammar:  Noun, pronoun and adjective review--SMART Notebook lesson

Objective:
    • Students will analyze the thoughts, words, and actions of a character to provoke a decision or impacts the development of the plot.
    • Demonstrate an understanding of how differences in points of view of the characters and the audience create effects as suspense, drama, or horror.

Lesson:
  • Go over Usage Demon Quiz.
  • Elements of Fiction Ppt and take notes on handout
  • HONORS:  Pass out SAT vocab list #1.  Definition and description part of speech, word forms of first 8 words.  Show cartoons
  • Read aloud "False Prince"



Tuesday:
Bell Work: Warriners pg 24 1-10.


Lesson:
  • Go over bell work
  • Put analyze and summarize in vocabulary notebooks
  • Read aloud "False Prince"

Wednesday: 
Bell Work: Grammar:  Finish Warriners pg 24 1-10  Honors:

Lesson:
  • Go over bell work
  • Go over the vocab "Analyze"
  • Finish Elements of fiction notes
  • Create list of  vocab from "Superman and Me"
  • Add 1 word to their vocab 
  • Honors:  Look at Padlet Wall


Thursday:
Bell Work: Grammar: Show
Boom goes the Dynamite

Lesson:
  • Mrs Doubrava and MAP scores
  • Honors:  Choose a book or movie and write a paragraph on each of the following:
    • Character
      • Protagonist
      • Antagonist
    • Setting
    • Plot
      • Conflict
      • Climax
      • Resolution
    • Point of View (may not remember)
    • Mood
    • Theme
  • Elements of Fiction video 
    • Plot and do Activity 1 (roadrunner)
    • Setting
    • Character and do Character Study (Shawshank Redemption)
    • Theme and activity 2

Friday:
Bell Work:  Read Library book 10 minutes


Lesson:

  • Respect Lottery Drawing (student selector)
    • If they have their library book
    • If they have not signed out for the restroom
    • From time to time:  binder on the ground, have their english folder, no head on the desk.
  • Honors:  Finish yesterday's assignment
  • Write summary of False Prince as a class.
  • Write summary of the book they are reading in their Journals.

  • Look at memoir examples on the back wall
  • Be ready to show 3 samples tomorrow (due Friday)  Meet in Library Lab on Friday

  • Season's Test over days of week, months and seasons
  • Make sure to have at least 3 six word memoir statements.  Continue to edit and revise.

Aug 18-22 Close Reading

Monday:

Objective:

  • Understand how to close read an article.
  • Understand words that are often confused and use them correctly.
Lesson:

  • Get English folders ready by putting in paper 
  • Start a Table of Contents
  • Take notes on Too and To
  • Read article on close reading on SMART board and model annotating for 1st read.  Vocabulary, main idea, questions?
  • Do Notebook Practice to practice Seasons
  • Read Aloud False Prince




Tuesday:
Bell Work: Take notes on There and Were slides 3-4

Lesson:

  • Go over bell work
  • Library Time
  • Read Silently



Wednesday:
Bell Work: Take notes on slides 5-6

Lesson:
  • Go over bell work
  • Re-take season's quiz
  • Pass out handout on Close Reading steps to put in their English folder.
  • Students read "Superman" using close reading 1st read ONLY:  vocabulary, main idea and questions
    • Stop and discuss after each step


Thursday: 
Bell Work: write sentences from slide 7 and 8  Test Friday

Lesson:

  • Go over bell work
  • Write one question on sticky note from assigned paragraph and put on the board.
  • Class discuss what they annotated in "Superman" 
  • What is the main idea?  Write it down, share and then write a group main idea.  
  • Discuss Structure, Figurative language, parallelism, literal
  • Read Aloud "False Prince"



Friday:
Bell Work: Read silently 10 minutes Need Library Book
